The British Open Championships in Blackpool’s magnificent Empress Ballroom were super-exciting in 2022. This year’s unforgettable event featured new champions in every category with results often being decided by the slimmest of margins, reflecting how close it was between the top competitors.
The Amateur Ballroom Championship was a particularly tightly fought contest with the superb performance of Michal Le and Sandra Jablonska emerging victorious over Alex Gunnarsson and Ekaterina Bond, and last year’s Under 21 Champions Glenn-Richard Boyce and Caroly Jänes finishing a sensational third.
The Amateur Latin Championship featured many new finalists creating lots of excitement and unpredictable results, with a great performance from eventual winners Salvatore Sinardi and Alexandra Kondrashova.
The charismatic Dorin Frecautanu and Marina Sergeeva triumphed in all five dances in the Professional Latin Championship, with Kirill Belorukov and Valeriya Aidaeva in second place.
Arguably the most unexpected winners of the festival, however, were new partners Valerio Colantoni and Anna Demidova, who won the Professional Ballroom Championship with a sensational performance on their first outing! Dusan and Valeria Dragovic took the top spot in the tango and finished second in all the other dances to take the runner-up spot.
