This week Vicky Gill, costume designer for Strictly Come Dancing thrilled us with interesting colour combinations and statement looks. With so many gorgeous looks to choose from it was a tough challenge to narrow down our favourite dresses to share with you. In this week's post we will be looking at four of the dresses. The ballroom dresses worn by Lesley and Joanne and the Latin dresses worn by Laura and Oti produced for the show here at DSI London.
Lesley's wore a Hawaiian pink Ballroom dress with a full skirt that had beautiful movement as she danced. The top layer of soft net added lightweight volume and a romantic softness to the look. The star of this design was the stoning. A variety of shades of pink and different sizes were combined together to create a multidimensional sparkle for this richly embellished look. The rhinestone shades used include Indian Pink, Ruby, Light Siam and Fuchsia. Edging the neckline Light Siam jewellery stones contrast beautifully against the pink.
A simple silhouette of full skirt and halter top is brought to life with an amazing colour statement. A top layer of Navy with Hawaiian pink and Mellow stripes flows over a Hawaiian pink skirt. Joanne's top was created with our stripe mesh and accented with three shades of rhinestones to tie the look together, Emerald, Light Rose and Montana. Multiple sizes of Emerald rhinestones were used to boldly decorate the neckline and echoed in the stripes of the top. This fun colour combination creates a bold look with of a touch of vintage glam.
At DSI London we love using unusual colour combinations but there are some classic combinations that are utterly irresistible. White and gold is absolutely one of them! Laura looked stunning in her white fringe latin dress for week 1. Long fringe is a fashionable alternative to the more usual shorter lengths. It creates a dramatic high fashion look with movement. Our 90cm tactel fringe is available in four shades including metallic silver and gold. Making a statement from the neckline Gold lace pairs with Aurum rhinestones adorn a Tan V-shape insert. The result is a stunning glamorous statement neckline. The finishing touches were draped aurum rhinestone strings created by hand and a metallic gold braided belt to cinch in the waist.
Bringing another stunning combination to the dance floor, Oti wore a two piece dress featuring the unusual combination of lilac drop beads and Vitrail light rhinestones on an Amethyst base. This was paired with Cocoa fabric used at the neckline embellished with Brown flair rhinestones. The Cocoa fabric and Brown flair rhinestones coordinate perfectly. It's an interesting combination and it really works! We also absolutely love the addition of the back cut out to the asymmetric skirt which was crafted from double layered amethyst mesh.
