DSI London is very proud to be creating the sparkling dresses for Dancing with the Stars Ireland.
Working closely with the creative producer, former Strictly Come Dancing professional Darren Bennett, our industrious team works hard to provide stunning outfits each week for the show.
“Dancing with the Stars has moved on so much – it’s not just about the dance anymore,” explains Darren. “It’s about the costumes, it’s about the lighting, it’s about the graphics. It’s making sure all those things tie together and work well.”
Darren works closely with the professional dancers and once the music has been picked he travels to DSI and looks at the available costumes at our London headquarters and builds up a portfolio of costumes for each week.
“I make sure each professional and celeb has something that fits and suits them in style as well as suiting what they’re trying to achieve in the dance on the night. It’s a matter of creating mood-boards each week so you’ve got one dress of each colour and you don’t overlap with styles and colours,” he explains. “Every single number has to be different and have a unique story.”
Some dresses are made new, with others coming from what DSI has in stock from other versions of the show. “I’d say 98% of the costumes for the single dances are from DSI,” Darren says. “DSI do lots of versions of the show from around the world – France, Austria, Sweden, Slovenia – lots of different countries.”
Hosted by Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne, Dancing with the Stars Ireland, currently in its second series, airs every Sunday on RTÉ One and features lots of familiar faces from the ballroom world.
