The first Argentine tango of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing was definitely a highlight of Week 8. Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez sizzled in a thrilling routine, which included some sultry fanwork, tricky stair-o-graphy and a nifty bit of footwork à la Vincent and Flavia.
And, as always, costume designer Vicky Gill ensured that Alexandra looked the part, too, in a stunning dress made of DSI London’s Desire stretch lace backed with Tan Mesh for a slinky Tango look. The dress was knee length with a thigh-high split to allow Alexandra to execute the Argentine tango’s scissoring legwork.
DSI’s stoning team used Hematite rhinestones to bring out the intricate pattern of the lace and a heavy line of Jet embellishment back to the neckline. Vicky added her own special touch with satin strips sewn asymmetrically across the bodice and to the back of the dress, finishing it off with long Black Fringe. Magic!
Sadly, this week saw the last on Strictly of the much-loved Ruth Langsford, who formed a very popular partnership with Anton Du Beke. But at least Ruth looked wonderful as she said goodbye!
Vicky left the Allure flock lace on the upper bodice of Ruth's foxtrot dress unembellished, with the fan shape beneath it, in stark contrast, richly decorated with strips of Aurum, Hematite and Crystal AB stones, which caught the lights beautifully.
The matt side of DSI’s Black Satin was used for the panels on the skirt but White Georgette godets were added for maximum impact on the Strictly floor.
Katya Jones’s Rumba dress was another show-stopper. With the main body of the dress formed by a leotard made in a double layer of Tan Mesh, the DSI team added Gold Bugle beads to the bust as well as a mixture of Topaz, Crystal AB and Volcano stones on the bodice.
Vicky’s use of fringe on the dress was pure genius and gave it a beautiful sense of movement on the floor. She used 15cm Rayon Fringe sewn on vertically to create a dramatic look. If you liked the look of it, don’t miss our 20% discount throughout November!
