As Seen on Strictly: Week 6

3rd November 2017

Ghosties and ghoulies came out to play for the Strictly Halloween special last week. Fright Night is always one of the absolute highlights of Strictly Come Dancing, for which costume designer Vicky Gill prepares a long time in advance and lets her imagination run free...

From dancing pirates and zombies to a predatory spider and the spectacular Regency-style Haunted Ballroom opener, there was so much to enjoy. Sadly, Simon Rimmer danced his last in a Sweeney Todd style American smooth while, on a happier note, Debbie McGee stole the show with her fab-u-lous Charleston, which included incredible lifts, tricks and a glorious costume change.

The “ghost” of former Strictly pro “Queen of the Catsuit” Ola Jordan was in the ballroom in the form of Mollie King’s dazzlingly demonic Flamenco all-in-one for her cha cha cha. This eye-catching, figure-hugging number was made from DSI’s Flamenco Mesh and Flamenco Lycra and embellished with Hyacinth AB and Light Siam rhinestones.

It took the DSI team endless hours to apply all those Hyacinth AB and Light Siam bead droppers, which gave the catsuit such a sense of life and movement on the dance floor.

One of Vicky’s masterpieces of the night was Katya Jones’s unique creation for her spidery foxtrot, which showed off bead droppers, feathers and satin bias binding in an unforgettable combination.

The profusion of black feathers reminded us of the spiders that inspired the outfit, but the special feature of the dress, which made it an absolutely standout creation, was the long see-through skirt. The body of the dress had Mesh sleeves with the exquisite embellishment of Jet and Jet AB rhinestones.

Stealing the show in her Ocean Blue Charleston dress, Debbie McGee reminded us that it is all about fringe this year! (If you haven’t taken advantage of DSI London’s November 20% discount on fringe, do have a look here.) The DSI team applied a subtle Capri Blue rhinestone edging to this classic blue flapper dress, showing as always, but particularly on Halloween, the devil is in the detail!
