One dress got tongues wagging and fingers tapping on social media more than any other on Strictly Come Dancing last week and that was Oti Mabuse’s slinky red number for her American smooth with Jonnie Peacock.
You can’t beat red on the dance floor and costume designer Vicky Gill created for Oti a stunning gown with timeless style and a fresh contemporary twist in the form of the striking asymmetric straps and exquisite back detail.
Made from our Flamenco crepe, with a flamenco satin waistband and a georgette skirt in the same bold shade, her dress had a beautiful light sense of movement on the floor for the dance’s lifts and tricks. It was stoned with our Light Siam rhinestones, the perfect shade to embellish Flamenco.
In a complete change of mood, Karen Hauer’s costume popped with warm sunny shades for her samba to the Barry Manilow classic Copacabana. Karen’s glorious confection was created from a base of tan mesh over Lycra with the fruity mix of tangerine, sunrise and lime fringe and, the perfect garnish on this fruit salad, a sparkling smattering of Citrine, Sun, Topaz and Crystal AB rhinestones.
Debbie McGee, who is doing brilliantly well in the competition this year, is a dream to dress: Vicky and her talented team can really go to town. Up close, you can see the exquisite detail in her cha cha costume. Her Hematite Lycra skirt was cut into panels with Rose pink mesh at the hem and rose pink individual fringe. The contrasting dusky and pink shades work brilliantly well on the floor, as we also saw with Nadiya’s Viennese waltz dress. The fringe also works brilliantly for the cha cha’s hip action. Note the exquisite Hematite and Crystal Labrador stoning on the dress too as well as the Jet hematite beading.
