The Strictly semi-final
The semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing was a bumper episode last week with each of the five couples performing two dances and, of course, needing two costumes as well.
By this stage of the competition, the standard of the dancing is extremely high and it was a genuinely tense dance-off with everything to play for between Gemma Atkinson and Mollie King.
In the end, it was Mollie who waltzed off into the sunset, leaving Gemma, Alexandra Burke, Joe McFadden and Debbie McGee as 2017’s four finalists. It looks to be a nail-biting conclusion to this year’s series – and the glitterball could be anybody’s on the night!
Pulling out all the stops for the last leg of the Strictly journey, costume designer Vicky Gill produced some crackers for the semi-final.
Mollie has been a dream to dress and her sparkling gold samba dress was the perfect festive number. Made from Tan Mesh over Metallic dot Lycra, the dress’s most stunning feature is its spectacularly creative embellishment with Preciosa Aurum rhinestones as well as stones in the new Sunrise shade.
The skirt features limited-edition fabric over Gold Pearl chiffon – and it’s also a piece that should be admired from the back, with its stunning Gold Elasticated bead fringe.
Alexandra Burke’s sizzling salsa received a perfect score of 40 from the judges and, as far as we’re concerned, her dress also deserved full marks.
In Flamenco Mesh over Flamenco Lycra, the dress came to life with strips of Metallic dot Lycra exquisitely decorated with Ruby and Fuchsia Preciosa rhinestones. As additional decoration on the asymmetric skirt, the Flamenco Hologram Sequin Fringe moved beautifully with Alexandra’s exuberant dancing.
