Strictly Musicals Week
As we rapidly approach the Strictly semi-finals in which each couple will do not one but two dances (and need two costumes!), there’s just about time for a quick look back at the glory that was Musicals Week.
A fantastic Oliver! medley opened the show followed on Sunday by a stunning performance from the Dreamgirls cast and professional dancers proving what we already knew – that fringe is taking over the world this year!
One of the most unforgettable dresses on Saturday was Vicky Gill’s incredible creation for Katya Jones, who danced a very striking samba with Joe McFadden to Money, Money from Cabaret. The dance presented a creative challenge to Vicky – a samba set in the era of Charleston – and the glorious end result has nods to both dances.
With a Flapper swimsuit-style bodice of Black Mesh over Tan Mesh, impeccably lined with glorious Emerald, Emerald AB and Jonquil AB stones, the pièce de résistance is the extraordinary skirt.
In strips of Black and Gold Stretch Satin edged in Black Ostrich feather boa, it was just right for the samba’s hip action but looked perfect as a tribute to the era of Cabaret too.
Another favourite with the judges was Debbie McGee’s American smooth to Memory from Cats. Vicky decided against putting Debbie in a full catsuit but the Hematite boas on her wrists and down the back of the dress – as the most elegant of tails – certainly gave a sense of feline features.
As Debbie was dancing an American smooth, she was put in a full flared skirt with Black and Hematite Georgette godets for a beautiful sense of movement for her wonderful lifts.
The main bodice of the dress is in Vibrance Mesh in Black and White with the exquisite embellishment of Jet and Hematite stones by the DSI stoning team. The back of the dress and bell sleeves are in Black Mesh.
As always, we’d love to hear about your favourite dresses – particularly your very favourite Strictly dress this year – so do get us in touch on social media and let us know...
