About last night

In an evening of high glamour, high drama, some mighty fine dancing and even a marriage proposal in the Carnival Interlude, last night concluded the 65th International Championships – and what a night it was.

As always, the DSI TV cameramen were there to capture every brilliant moment for our live stream, but if you missed it last night, do hurry! The live action replay from the Royal Albert Hall is only available for ONE WEEK on the DSI TV website, so catch it while it’s there.

The buzz from last night will probably last a bit longer than a week for the four winning couples. Arunas Bizokas and Katusha Demidova returned to the International after a break from it last year, swooping in to retrieve their crown, while returning Professional Latin champions Riccardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoruychenko retained their prestigious title.

In the International Amateur Latin Championship the triumphant moment finally came for Ferdinando Iannaccone and Yulia Musikhina, who have been working their way up to the top over the years, and a lot of hard work finally paid off too for Chong He and Jing Shan, who were crowned International Amateur Ballroom champions.

At DSI, we had plenty to celebrate with our dancers doing us proud. Uber-talented DSI Elite Performers Igor Reznik and Mariia Polishchuk were placed sixth in the International Amateur Ballroom, a fantastic achievement for such a young pair, with Alex Gunnarsson and Anna Trenzeleva ninth in this prestigious championship.

There was also cause for celebration for DSI Elite Performers Denys Samson and Yuliya Nikitenko, who made the International Amateur Latin semi-finals for the first time, and Lloyd Perry and Rebecca Scott, who were dancing in the same event in the Royal Albert Hall for their very first year, really making an impact on the floor.

Also making waves, as always, was DSI Elite Performer Gunnar Gunnarsson, rocking his signature waistcoat in the International Professional Latin semi-finals, as well as Stanislav Zelianin and Irina Cherepanova, who reached the International Professional Ballroom semis.
